Instrumentation

Field instruments, hook-up, tubing and loop checking

INSTOverview

Installation of field instrumentation from transmitter to junction box to marshalling cabinet — including impulse lines, hook-up, tubing runs and the loop checks that close them out. Work in classified areas is installed and inspected to the Ex protection concept called for on the hazardous area drawing.

ScopeWhat the work covers

Installation

  • Pressure, temperature, flow and level transmitter installation
  • Gauges, switches, thermowells and local indicators
  • Control valves, actuators, positioners and solenoid valves
  • Analyser and sampling system installation
  • Instrument stands, brackets and protective enclosures

Hook-up and tubing

  • Impulse line routing with correct slope for gas and liquid service
  • SS316 instrument tubing, compression fittings and bulkheads
  • 2-valve, 3-valve and 5-valve manifold installation
  • Instrument air distribution, air sets and filter regulators
  • Steam and electrical heat tracing of instrument lines

Termination and checking

  • Field junction box and multicore termination
  • Marshalling and system cabinet termination
  • Continuity, insulation and polarity checks before energising
  • Loop checking against loop drawings, with signed loop folders
  • Punch listing, punch clearance and as-built mark-up

The loop drawing is where the job starts and where it is judged.

We work from your loop drawings, hook-up standards and area classification drawings. Where a hook-up cannot be built as drawn — no room for the manifold, a slope that cannot be held, a gland that does not suit the zone — that is a technical query raised in writing before material is ordered.

Nothing is signed off on the strength of an installation looking right. A loop is complete when it has been proven from the field device to the control system graphic and the folder has been signed.
